Subway “Self Titled” 2007
This might be the best subway picture that I’ve taken. Not because of the poster which of course is absurdly perfect. I had taken several shots of them and in one of the earlier images, they both were very aware of me and looked like they were uncomfortable. I really liked the composition though because of the way their arms were all over the place. By the time I took this frame, they had become oblivious to my persistent snapping and settled into a nice peaceful mood…This one is better.

New York 1988
I can’t date this subway sign. It has stencil style letters which were lit at night. It’s also making a feeble attempt at being “Art Deco”…Perhaps Kevin at Forgotten New York will know if this is pre-war or not…

NYC 2005
I just rescanned this image and it’s better than the last scan. I suppose I shouldn’t sequence my images in such an obvious way, but that’s always been one of my faults. One of “Street Photography’s” biggest assets is that there is usually truth in each picture. I’ve never met a “Street Photographer” who would stage his or her images. Of course some may stoop that low, but that is their business and they have to live with their forgeries. This picture as it had once been suggested, was not staged…

“My Corner” 1988
There use to be a group of police called the TNT squad and they were busy rounding up the crack dealers on my corner back in the ’80s…Although the upper west side was giving in to gentrification like most neighborhoods, there were always a few blocks which resisted the trend…
