“Howard Johnson’s” Times Square 1988

As I continue to search for images which I may have overlooked twenty years ago, I am constantly coming across some pleasant surprises. This sign was an iconic part of Times Sq. for several decades. Once again, I do have a master printer who has kindly offered to print my work at a reasonable price. Archival Pigment Prints of most of the images on this website, can be purchased. Just e-mail me for a quote…Thanks!

“Unknown Photographer” Times Square 1988

You can see the Nathan’s on West 43d St. which had the venerable Times Square Bowling Alley upstairs. I bowled there a few times for 75¢ a game back in the late 1970s. Nathan’s french fries as we all know are just dripping in their grease which may be days if not weeks old. The Big Apple Porn theater would let you stay all day for $2.99 or as long as four flicks lasted…Who is this photographer? I don’t think it’s Eli Reed. Could it be Chester Higgins? I think he has one of those Quantum battery packs on his belt, which leads me to believe he was a press photographer…Oh well, he’s old school and was working the area at its seediest…

“Hellbound” Times Sq. 2010

This fellow is upset because I’m in his face and he says I’m being disrespectful. I think he’s being disrespectful by telling me that I’m going to Hell. If that’s true, it shouldn’t be just because I’m Caucasian. I think Hell should be earned, not a birthright. These guys have always bothered me. Most religious people bother me. They are so certain I’m going to Hell, while at same time being equally assured that they are Heaven bound…Must be nice.
