I kept checking every hour or so to see if hurricane Irene had arrived, and she blew me off! That’s fine with me. She wasn’t so kind to people elsewhere, but as far as the upper west side is concerned, a big no show…

  1. Weird how the mind works. At least mine. 🙂

Immediate thought…Natalie Wood in the final scene of West Side Story when Tony dies in arms. When she walks away, she places a scarf over her head.

  2. That’s why it’s a classic. 🙂

Laurents, Sondheim, Robbins and Bernstein…how could they miss?

Sondheim just wrote a pretty scathing article in NY Times about the director of the new production of Porgy & Bess. Never seen the play, but I really liked what Sondheim was saying in the article. I had the pleasure of seeing “Sondheim on Sondheim” last year on Broadway and he made similar statements regarding theatre’s present status…it’s a reflection of where a culture is at (or not at) at the time…essentially suggesting much of today’s theatre has joined the dumbing down of America.

  3. You’re right of course. The theater is the same as most of the big budget movies…All special effects and thin on plots, and as long as this formula make a profit, it’ll never change…
