It’s amazing what a “throw away” this image was when I took it. I never thought I’d be happy, make that thrilled, to find it again…

Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

I have a friend, Tommy, in Athens, Tennessee who shot a similar photo, with far less advanced equipment (a cell phone cam)…it was one of the great blog posts of all time. He was standing outside during a break at work, chanced to look up at the wide open sky, and spotted a great big cloud in the shape of the number “5.” I loved it…his post, the photo…it made me laugh so that he printed a color 8×10 for me and sent it to me for a recent birthday. I’m all about the alphanumeric clouds.
Thanks Eica…Numbers, letters and words are always welcome additions…
X marks the spot? What a fateful shot as a harbinger of things to come. Sad and significant too in that the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, thereby virtually eliminating one of two superpowers, and leaving the US as the only remaining target or challenge to the Muslim extremists.
These are precarious times for sure…
