Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe. View all posts by Matt Weber

This is a really powerful photograph. Unlike so many of the close up reportage recorded on that day, this urban scene serves to show how everyone in the city – at any distance – was deeply affected by the events. The sense of despair on the woman’s face, so perfectly caught in this ‘decisive moment’, says it all. Even the ‘One Way’ sign has ironic undertones. This is (in my opinion) a truly great street photograph which any of the great iconic street photographers we revere would be proud to have taken.
Marty…Thanks for taking the time to write those kind words. Lets hope there are no more days like 9/11 in our future…
