Coney Island 2010

I went to the Mermaid parade last week, and of course as long as I don’t shoot the parade, I have a chance to get what I’m looking for. Of course, I have no idea what that may be. This picture made me happy because it falls into that category of things I’ve never seen before, and know I’ll never see again…A bunch of kids playing under a beach umbrella, flanked by twin sentinels in profile, ready to pop…Now that’s what I’m talking about!

I think this may have been taken in Astroland but the main story is that “Little” loves the water gun game, and always loses. Finally last year with a lifetime record of 0-15 she beat a young boy and was thrilled with her victory. It’s amazing that winning can be so important to a girl at such a young age, but I guess it’s just part of the human condition…

I doubt I’ll get married again, but if I did, what’s wrong with Coney Island? Must it always be the Hamptons or Tavern on the Green? Why go the $250 per plate route, when a dog a and a brew will only set you back $8 per paper plate. Yes the wedding dress will be ruined from the sand, and yes you will be surrounded by down to earth people with a few dozen tattoos, but so what? I’ve read that more people have fallen in love at Coney Island than anywhere else, so maybe this makes sense. The kids won’t complain a bit, and after everyone gets smashed, there are half a dozen subway lines ready to be your designated driver…

Nathan’s never closes, which during a blizzard is a good thing. Even if you don’t like hotdogs, their greasy french fries will keep you happy for a few minutes till your stomach realizes what you just ingested. I guess I like extremes, because my best days at Coney are when it’s 100º or during a friggin’ blizzard…
