  1. Apparently I’m the same naive, small-town boy I’ve always tried to escape. When I was in Manhattan this year, I made the “mistake” of smiling at a woman who was walking in the opposite direction on a sidewalk near 2nd and 50th around 10-11 p.m. She was wearing the obligatory clubbing outfit most women in their 20s wear these days. Personally, I’ve always thought the current fashion trend leans a little heavily toward the hooker look (blame or thank Sex & the City?), but without missing a beat, the woman used her best Marilyn Monroe voice in an attempt to win me over.

I must admit, I’d be disappointed if NYC ever stopped catching me off guard at least once every visit. 🙂

  2. Matt…she wasn’t the only hooker I saw during this years visit.

I was walking through Times Square one evening on one of the side streets and I came upon a younger guy leaning against a light post. His shirt was off and he definitely had a gym body. As I walked past him, I couldn’t believe how retro it all seemed. I remembered thinking to myself “There’s no way he can be doing what I think he’s doing. It’s not the 1970s anymore. The police would bust him these days.”

I turned around to take another look, but this time a photographer was standing next to him.

Suddenly it all made sense. 🙂
