I was thrilled to find this image. It think it was taken on East Houston Street. This view of late Nineteenth century housing is probably very different today. If the buildings are still standing, there would be a few air conditioners in the windows. Over half of the tenants who were living here would have been replaced with upscale and much younger ones. They were known as “Yuppies” back in the day….
Ah the good old days!

Beautiful! Love the texture that came out through this BW Photograph…in Shanghai we used to have these houses called ‘long tans’ that were there for up to a few hundred years and had a number of generations living in them. All to be demolished in 10 years and replaced by spanking new skyscrapers….it sometimes makes you wonder if new is really better?
I have see some photos of the old & new Shanghai and I agree that new is not always better…Thanks!
