There are so many photographers walking around these days that it can be overwhelming. I use to get a nod of respect from people who recognized that I was sporting a nice camera.  These days, very few people even know what a rangefinder, let alone a Leica is…

  1. Sigh. I use a gigantic DSLR. It was cheap for somethign nice, it’s effective. I dream of a Leica, but they are far too expensive for a student like me. I don’t think I’d use anything else If I was lucky enough to own one.
All people on my course use Holgas, I don’t mind it, but their ownders air of superiority used to infuriate me, that was till I was asked “how do you put a film into it”.

It was all fine after that.

  2. That’s funny. I guess if it wasn’t for Holga’s then nobody would be getting into film these days. I think Leica’s are getting cheaper on the second hand market (ebay)
but I haven’t checked and unfortunately the Leica lenses are never going to be cheap. I took many of my best pictures with a $149 Canon AE-1 and a $99 lens…
Leicas are a luxury which are not that important. Nice, but not necessary…
