Something’s going on, but I’m not sure what. Maybe they helped their friend, (In a nightgown with sneakers untied) escape from a hospital. Maybe he was just grounded for a few weeks. Most of the buildings on the upper west side have a second door in the kitchen which leads to a staircase for fires and emergencies. I had to use that door on occasion when I was their age to make my getaway. Maybe the kid in the gown is texting his parents and apologizing for his escape, just moments after having fled the coop…

  1. Spoken like a true parent. 🙂

The look on the kid’s face on the far left says it all.

    Great capture, Matt!

This is one of those photos the kids in the pic would find priceless 40 years from now.

  2. Are we missing the obvious? That’s a ‘Zebra Crossing’. (Do you call it that in NYC?) This is the lads reinterpretation of the famous Beatles album cover, ‘Abbey Road’: ‘http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/42/Beatles_-_Abbey_Road.jpg .
They repeat the order advancing over the crossing, from left to right here: John, Ringo, Paul and George. They even give a nod to to the ‘urban myth’ that Paul McCartney’s bare feet are an indication that he had died and been replaced by a looky likey. Shown here, cleverly, by an angel, suitably gowned and in white sneakers, not the pack black. Genius on their part.

How often do you hang out on that crossing, Mr Weber, for these wags to have realised that they could record for posterity their fleeting moment of street art brilliance, Their homage. Well done you for ably aiding and abetting their creativity.

i’ve just had a memory flash on ‘Weber’ and panicked that i was spouting this inane drivel to the other ‘Weber’. You may be up on the mountain too but i hope not quite so elevated in the pantheon of photographers that you will be above appreciating my interpretation of your capture. Though, your more mundane interpretation is probably closer to the truth. Maybe, if this is December, it’s just he’s cast as Gabriel in the local ‘Nativity’?
