The wreckers have been having a field day out at Coney Island lately. I dread my next trip out there, as I will find a few empty lots in place of some of Coney’s oldest buildings. I am very skeptical as to whether or not the new Coney Island will still be a place where the working class can come and enjoy themselves. Time will tell…

Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

A similar transition happened here in London’s Camden town. Old stable market was replaced by a shopping centre. It used to be…now it just…is. If that makes any sense.
I really do believe some transitions aren’t for the better.
Opinion is cheap though…
There was so little left of the “Historic Coney Island” that they could have left a couple of small buildings and one old watering hole intact…It would have been a nice compromise,
but money talks and you know what walks…
