Old image of the city which seemed to be on the verge of disaster. The city of today is different yet also makes me feel nervous. You have all the wealthy people who not only survived the ’80s but thrived, and in the past two years, a whole new population of people holding empty coffee cups trying to “Live” in one of Manhattan’s most desirable neighborhoods. Watching happy dads and their kids walking by the homeless with $200 Christmas trees, has always left me feeling terrible…Same as it ever was.

  1. Yeah, it’s a bit of a shitter really. I’m finding myself stopping and having a chat with any homeless man more often these days. All have life stories which make mine look pathetic.

  2. I met a homeless fellow who recognized my Leica and said that he had a photo in a Moma exhibit back in ’71…I have forgotten his name and will try to google it when I meet him again. He seems to know quite a bit about darkroom chemicals and papers…

  3. Matt, I also meet a homeless man recently who recognized my camera. He told me he had worked for AP in the 60’s in SE Asia. I was dubious at first, but after talking for a while, I believed he was credible. Unfortunately, we only exchanged first names and I haven’t run into him since…
