Here’s a fellow who has definitely arrived and wants to make sure you know. He might be a tough guy who has had some success on Wall Street. Then again considering he got on the train a couple of blocks from police headquarters, he might have a gold shield to go with his gold watch and chain…He didn’t like me very much…I can’t blame him.

Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

The trappings of wealth do more to imply a lack thereof in my book. He doesn’t like you because the camera can reveal him for what he is. Real rich guys never take the subway, unless they are being photographed on it to show how regular they are, so unless he was paying you…
Wonderful moment and NY character, it, like all of your photos, inspires the imagination into creating stories about your subjects.
I always like to try and figure people out. I’m probably wrong 99.9% of the time, but I can’t help it…
Your guess is probably more on the “money”
At least to me, he looks like a looser with a lot of pretensions…the shirt, tie, whatever is written on the cuffs, the 100 bucks watch.
There are no versions which I can be certain of…He wants respect, but has he earned it? I think he may have, if he spent 20 years walking a beat in the Bronx…If he’s just a day trader then all the gold in the world don’t mean shit to me…
