Some corners have a pulse all to themselves. Despite years of gentrification, there are still a couple of nooks & crannies left on the upper west side, where things still happen…

Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

Yikes. Stay safe.
Looks like an audition for “So You Think You Can Dance”. Why do I get the feeling that these guys are well acquainted?
The guy on the right was armed with two bottles of Grolsch and he may have been an employee of the deli.
The cat showing off his boxers was the evil interloper, and was arrested about two blocks away after he split upon hearing the sirens…
dad that is just digusting
Offspring’s comment resounds with truth, or as the two guys pictured would probably say,
“True Dat”
Matt – that’s brilliant. Well done.
Thanks Phill, I was going to title it “Profile of Pregnant Woman in Phone Booth” but decided not to at the last moment…
Potent capture. Nice work! Not surprised he was caught, he probably tripped over his pants.
These days, with everybody carrying cell phones, it’s very hard to escape the long arm of the law…
I’m guessing you were nearby when you heard the commotion and decided to see what panned out? I like the individual on the edge of the frame, as it poses yet more questions, lovely shot though Matt.
Yes there were many angry words and then a single punch. I exposed just one frame, so I guess I was lucky…
Excellent shot! Great framing. definitely a decisive moment.
Thanks DG!
Damn Matt, you sure do have a knack for catching the right moments in time. That’s my old building in the background, 176 west 87th. And you’re soooo right about the gentrification of the old hood! I’m gonna have to come back home for a visit and see you brother!
