I don’t get excited by snow anymore. My friend Dave hits Central Park and takes many a beautiful landscape of the snow laden branches of the suddenly pristine winter wonderland. Then he told me his biggest challenge in post-processing his pictures is, removing all the other photographers! This winter the snow piled up and lasted forever. There’s still December snow on some corners as we turn the calendar to March. I went out photographed all the crusty dirty snow and found that, “Black is still beautiful” even when it comes to frozen water…

“Leveling Coney Island” 2010
The wreckers have been having a field day out at Coney Island lately. I dread my next trip out there, as I will find a few empty lots in place of some of Coney’s oldest buildings. I am very skeptical as to whether or not the new Coney Island will still be a place where the working class can come and enjoy themselves. Time will tell…

Brooklyn 2010
Well, if I’ve taken any pictures more picturesque or “postcardesque” lately, I’m unaware of them. This is one of those pictures which we could take back into the film vs. digital debate. I’d say the quality of film is fairly obvious, and you might reply that you could sample my grain and import it into your own image. That would almost be as lame as a rapper who can’t sing or play any instruments, sampling some Led Zeppelin (Who stole plenty of riffs and licks from other bands) and importing it into his song…

The funny thing about photography is that you can like a picture and be totally unable to articulate why. I usually have no shortage of verbiage when it comes to describing my thoughts. This image is……..Why should a person have to know or be able to say why something pleases them?

“Brave New World” NYC 2010
In the next few weeks this newsstand on my corner will be replaced by a new glass one. These new ones are mandatory and look very similar to the new bus shelters. Dave Beckerman just posted a version of the same newsstand on his website…
