Cars, Buses and maybe a truck or two
When it comes to titling photos badly, I must claim to be number one! I have always been able to come up the worst titles humanly possible. Anyway, despite my poor choice of words, I think this picture has “Fared” well over the past 22 years. Even back in the 1980s when Checker taxis were everywhere, I knew their days were numbered. I have dozens of pictures of them and will one day have to do a book called “34 Checkered Taxi Cabs”

Old school all the way. An old ’59 Chrysler propped up on a pair of old tires, in front of what may have been New York’s most disheveled repair shop, while an old timer walks his mutt off the leash…What’s a leash?

I spent several summers in the back of a ’53 Plymouth. We bought one for $50 and it refused to die. Even without a battery it served us well, as we always parked it on top of a hill and gave it a “Push Start”
I’m not the first photographer to notice that these Plymouths sort of have a face when photographed from this angle…

For twelve years of my life, the Checker Cab was my nemesis. People who were about to get into my cab would invariably change their mind at the last second, when they heard the Checker’s horn gently beckoning. Nostalgia Kills…

I am using twenty year old titles because they had some relevance when I titled them and I suppose that the original impetus to title an image still has some significance, when looking at it many years later. After all, everything changes in New York, and the last yuppie was seen on September 10th 2001…After that we all became just New Yorkers again…
Right? Or is that just wishful thinking?
