Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe. View all posts by Matt Weber

Wow! I can’t think of a better title for this photo, Matt. You definitely captured a definitive moment. Would love to have seen the 1960-90s version of Times Square just so I would have something to compare it to today. When I visit NYC these days, I try to avoid Times Square at all costs simply because it’s overrun with tourists! (In total denial that I’m one myself of course.)
Greg, the film is called: “Doin’ Time In Times Square” circa 1991 by Charlie Ahearn…Its available on Amazon or it was….Really intense!
Greg, There’s a short film and I can’t recall the name but when I do, I’ll let you know. The guy lived on 43d and 8th Ave and he shot videos of the hookers & pimps fighting in the street beneath his window. It is a raw view of how bad thing were 25 years ago…I looked for it and couldn’t find it.
Thanks for the tip, Matt! The fact that a native New Yorker is calling the documentary “really intense” has me a little concerned, but I’m curious enough that I’ll probably check it out. Thanks again!
