Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

The guy holding the bike is Mike Perkins from Manhattanville projects in Harlem. The guy with the newspaper behind the guy with the helmet is my lil man Kool who lived across from the Grant projects in Harlem too. Kool’s bike was stolen that day and Mike seen it from his job window and they chased the guys who stole it. You happened to be there just as they were getting it back. 2nd Avenue and 9th street is where this happened. Great picture.
Troy, I always loved this picture, and I can’t believe that you know the complete backstory….Thanks!!
Troy, give me an e-mail and I’ll send you a high-res file for you and your friends, if you want one…Matt
