Before Nintendo, kids had to be creative to pass the time. Throwing stuff out the window was a common sport for urban kids. Eggs were obviously the first choice in projectiles, but we had to make due with whatever was available…

Photographing NYC for 25 years, six of them while driving a New York City taxi. Trying very hard to capture the city as life unfolds, meaning I never stage any of my photos! Also I am a close confidant of the immortal Dave Beckerman, (quintessential NYC photographer) and owner of the first photography blog in the known universe.

Apparently these kids aren’t completely evil. The bottle is plastic and not glass. š
I often wonder how different my life would be today if I had grown up in a city like NYC as opposed to being a country boy.
In the Midwest we threw water balloons from car windows at oncoming traffic.
I once through a rock at a car and broke its window. Damn I felt bad, and at the same time relieved that the car didn’t crash….
Greg, I’m sure you and your country friends had a few pranks which kept you busy…how about cow tipping?
I can relate!
Yes, we all chucked many things out of windows back in the day…JC was fearless in that dept…He’d egg police cruisers from 14 stories and then split…
No cow tipping here, Matt. I had too much respect for them considering my grandparents owned a farm in northern Wisconsin. I always thought they were cute with their big eyes.
These days my diet is mostly cow-free. Once or twice a year I break down and have a pizza with an Italian sausage, but that’s about it. I think that’s from cows…right? lol
But I was basically your goody-two-shoes type that always obeyed the rules ad didn’t cause a lot of problems. I’m sure growing up in NYC could have fixed that. š
